Faf Duplessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) kept their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive with an impressive win over Delhi Capitals at home on Sunday. This is RCB's fifth consecutive win and it has made a tremendous comeback after a bad start. RCB did not have a good start to the season and lost 6 consecutive matches, which reduced its chances of reaching the playoffs. However, after consecutive defeats, RCB changed their game plan and managed to return to winning ways.
What happened in the match?
In the 62nd match of IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Delhi Capitals by 47 runs. This was RCB's fifth consecutive win. Batting first, Bengaluru scored 187 runs at the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Rajat Patidar scored 52 runs on 32 balls and Will Jacques scored 41 runs on 29 balls. Virat Kohli scored 27 runs. In reply, Delhi team collapsed for 140 runs in 19.1 overs. Akshar Patel, who was captaining in place of Rishabh Pant in the match, scored 57 runs in 39 balls. Yash Dayal took three wickets and Lockie Ferguson took two wickets.
RCB remains in the race for playoffs
The team is still in the race for the playoffs. They have 12 points after six wins and seven losses in 13 matches. With the win against Delhi, the team reached fifth place. Bengaluru has to play its last match against Chennai Super Kings on May 18 at Chinnaswamy. The future of both the teams will depend on this match. If Chennai wins, RCB will be out of the race for the playoffs. At the same time, if Bengaluru wins then it will have to win by a good margin so that the net run rate can be better than Chennai. Even after this, Bengaluru will have to depend on the results of other teams.
Players celebrated after the victory
The victory against Delhi was no less than a lifesaver for RCB. If the team had lost against Delhi, the doors would have almost been closed for it. RCB players were well aware of this, so after the victory they could not control their emotions and the players celebrated the victory in the dressing room itself. The RCB coaching staff praised each member of the team for their stellar performance. RCB has posted its video on its social media handle in which players like Cameron Green and Rajat Patidar are seen busy celebrating.
'Faf and Kohli are leading'
RCB head coach Andy Flower talked about a change in the way the top order plays. Flower also praised the bowling aggression of RCB. Flower said, Faf and Virat are leading the team with their aggressive game and the rest of the team players are also performing well. Mohammad Siraj and Yash Dayal are bowling brilliantly with the new ball.
