Tamil Nadu Government Jobs Age Limit: A historic relief news has emerged from Tamil Nadu for the youth preparing for government jobs and the candidates who have been standing on the verge of crossing the age limit for years. Accepting the long standing demand of the candidates appearing in competitive examinations, the state government has decided to give a one-time relaxation of 5 years in the maximum age limit for applying for government services. Under this amendment, the age limit has been increased in various service cadres, due to which the candidates belonging to the specially reserved category (Persons with Disabilities – PwD) will now get a historic opportunity to apply for Group-1 administrative services till the age of 52 years.
Thousands of candidates preparing for the examinations of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) and various recruitment boards of the state had been pleading for relaxation in the upper age limit for a long time. Due to delays in recruitment processes and missed deadlines, many eligible candidates were becoming ineligible without appearing for the examination. Taking cognizance of the memorandum and representations of the candidates, the state government took this big decision. According to the official release, this additional relaxation of 5 years will be added on top of all the existing statutory relaxations. This revised age limit will be fully effective on all state government recruitments for the next 5 years.
There has been a major change in the age rules of Group-1 examination conducted for the highest administrative services of the state (like Deputy Collector, DSP etc.):
-

-
Disabled candidates of general category: Age limit increased from 42 years for disabled candidates of general (unreserved) category. 47 years Has been decided.

-
General Category: For general category candidates, the age limit for application in Group-1 has been increased from 32 years. 37 years It has been determined.
Apart from Group-1, revised rules have also been implemented for other major recruitment examinations of the state:
-
Group-2 and 2A Services: The age limit for general category in these services has been increased from 30 years. 35 years Has been done. For disabled candidates of general category, this limit has been increased from 40 years. 45 years Has occurred. It is noteworthy that for most of the posts in Group-2 services, there is already no upper age limit rule applicable for reserved category candidates.
-
Group-4 and Subordinate Services: In the Group-4 and Village Administrative Officer (VAO) level examinations, new opportunities have been given to the candidates of Backward Class (BC), Most Backward Class (MBC) and other categories by bringing them under the increased age limit.
This one-time relaxation of 5 years in government jobs has given a new lease of life to lakhs of candidates in Tamil Nadu who were on the verge of becoming overage due to the Corona period or the regular recruitment cycle being affected. This is a great support especially for the disabled and adult candidates from socially backward classes, who were continuing their studies despite adverse circumstances. Experts believe that this decision will drastically increase the number of applicants in the upcoming TNPSC and departmental examinations of the state and make the competition more comprehensive and inclusive.
