Petrol Diesel Price Today: Oil companies have released new rates of petrol and diesel, is it a burden on your pocket? Check the latest prices in your city

Amid the ongoing turmoil in the global energy market and international crude oil prices, Indian oil marketing companies—Indian Oil (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL)—have released the latest retail selling prices (RSP) of petrol and diesel at 6 am today. What is a big relief for common consumers and daily motorists is that there has been no major change in fuel prices at the national level and the rates have remained broadly stable. However, due to differences in local sales tax (VAT) and freight charges in different states, there is a slight variation in fuel prices in different cities. If you too are going to fill your car’s tank today, then definitely check the latest prices in your city.

Petrol and diesel rates have remained stable today in all four major metros of the country without any major fluctuations:

Metro City Petrol (₹ per liter) Diesel (₹ per liter)
New Delhi ₹102.12 ₹95.20
Mumbai ₹111.21 ₹97.83
Kolkata ₹113.51 ₹99.82
Chennai ₹107.76 ₹99.55

Due to high rates of local taxes in the country’s financial capital Mumbai, petrol prices remain on top in the metros, while in the national capital Delhi, fuel is available at the most affordable rate among the four metros.

Apart from the metros, the prices of petrol and diesel in other big business and state headquarters of the country also remain as per the prescribed standards:

  • Lucknow: Petrol ₹101.86 per liter Diesel ₹95.36 per liter

  • Kanpur: Petrol ₹101.59 per liter Diesel ₹95.06 per liter

  • Noida/Ghaziabad: Petrol ₹101.90 per liter Diesel ₹95.01 per liter

  • Patna: Petrol ₹113.37 per liter Diesel ₹99.36 per liter

  • Jaipur: Petrol ₹113.19 per liter Diesel ₹98.25 per liter

  • Bengaluru: Petrol ₹111.68 per liter Diesel ₹99.56 per liter

  • Hyderabad: Petrol ₹116.15 per liter Diesel ₹104.23 per liter

  • Ahmedabad: Petrol ₹102.15 per liter Diesel ₹98.27 per liter

  • Chandigarh: Petrol ₹101.54 per liter Diesel ₹89.47 per liter

Retail prices of petrol and diesel in India operate entirely under a dynamic fuel pricing mechanism. The country’s public oil companies assess the average 15-day prices of crude oil in the international market and the exchange rate of the Indian rupee against the US dollar. On this basis the base price is decided. After this, the final consumer rate (Retail Selling Price) is determined by adding the Central Excise Duty imposed by the Central Government, Value Added Tax (VAT) charged by the concerned State Government, dealer’s commission and the transportation cost of delivering fuel from the refinery to the petrol pump. This is the reason why oil of the same company is sold at different prices in different states and even neighboring districts.
