Karwa Chauth School Holiday: Are schools closed or open in Delhi-NCR today on Karwa Chauth? Latest update of schools of Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad

On the occasion of the holy festival of Karva Chauth, official rules have come out regarding the operation of schools in various cities of Delhi-NCR and the confusion created between parents and students regarding holidays. Karva Chauth does not come under the category of mandatory public holiday (Gazetted Public Holiday), rather it remains under the ambit of restricted or optional holiday. This is the reason why different systems have been implemented for schools in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh (Noida-Ghaziabad) and Haryana (Gurugram-Faridabad).

The situation on Karva Chauth under the annual holiday calendar of the Directorate of Education and Government of Delhi in the national capital Delhi is as follows:

  • Government and aided schools: Holidays have been fixed in government schools of Delhi on the occasion of Karva Chauth.

  • Private School: Most of the non-government and private schools in Delhi operate on the basis of their own autonomous academic calendar. Many big private schools continued regular classes today, while some schools declared holiday as per the management decision at the local level.

According to the calendar of Basic Education Council of Uttar Pradesh, there is a provision of special holiday for women teachers on Karva Chauth.

  • Government primary and upper primary schools: Women teachers in schools under the Basic Education Department have been allowed leave, but there is no general order for mandatory universal closure of students in the entire district. Administrative work and classes are being conducted where adequate staff is available.

  • CBSE and ICSE Private Schools: Most of the major private schools of Noida and Greater Noida are open today as normal. Some schools have made slight changes in the timings as per half-day or cultural activities, about which they had already informed the parents through circulars.

Even in Ghaziabad district, the administration has not announced any general public holiday for the students.

  • In council schools under basic education and secondary education, attendance may remain limited due to teachers being on leave, but schools are open.

  • Today, regular classes, tests and project work are going on as per the scheduled schedule in private convents and international schools.

Haryana Government’s Education Department has not issued any notification of any mandatory holiday in schools regarding Karva Chauth. Due to this, all the government and private schools of Gurugram, Manesar and Faridabad are open as usual and studies are going on smoothly.

Since different educational institutions and private school managements have different rules, students and parents are advised to check the official mobile app, WhatsApp broadcast group or school diary circular of their respective school to avoid any confusion.
