Rajinikanth creates history on 11th day, Kollywood’s first ₹700 crore film

The magic of Indian cinema’s Thalaiva i.e. superstar Rajinikanth is once again at its peak at the box office. His much awaited and explosive action thriller ‘Jailer 2’ has set a historical record on the 11th day of its release in theatres, which will not be easy for any other film to break. Rajinikanth has created a new history of earning at the worldwide box office on the strength of his charismatic acting and strong screen presence. ‘Jailor 2’ has become the first film in the history of Tamil cinema i.e. Kollywood to cross the Rs 700 crore mark worldwide. On the other hand, in front of this fierce storm, Vicky Kaushal’s much talked about film ‘Chaava’ has lost its steam and the pace of its collection has completely stopped. This great incarnation of Thalaiva has created a stir not only in the country but also in the foreign markets.

The pairing of superstar Rajinikanth and director Nelson Dilip Kumar has once again created such an explosion in the theaters that its echo is being heard all over the world. On the second weekend of its release i.e. on the 11th day, the film maintained its dominance in India as well as in foreign markets. According to the preliminary figures on 2nd Sunday, the film successfully crossed the magical and historic figure of ₹700 crore in worldwide collections. With this, ‘Jailor 2’ has become the number-1 highest grossing blockbuster film of Kollywood till date. Even today, the boards of ‘Housefull’ are hanging in theaters from Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad to America, Malaysia and Gulf countries. Rajinikanth’s stardom even at the age of 74 proves that there is no other record-breaker like him in Indian cinema.

This tsunami of Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailor 2’ has had a direct impact on Bollywood’s big release ‘Chhaava’. There was a lot of buzz among the audience about Vicky Kaushal starrer period drama ‘Chhaava’, but in front of the storm of ‘Jailor 2’, its pace seems to be slowing down. While ‘Chaava’ was trying to establish its strong hold over the weekend, the audience has been completely drawn towards ‘Jailor 2’ in front of the action and dialogues of Thalaivaa. Rajinikanth’s shows have also been increased in many multiplexes of North India, due to which a big decline has been recorded in the collection of ‘Chhaava’. Critics believe that this mega collection of Rajinikanth is directly affecting the business of all other films.

After all, what is there in ‘Jailor 2’ that is making the audience turn to theaters again and again? The answer is the film’s unmatched swag, Nelson Dilip Kumar’s brilliant direction and Anirudh Ravichander’s blockbuster background music. Rajinikanth’s ‘Tiger Hukum’ avatar in ‘Jailor 2’ looks more aggressive, stylish and entertaining than the first part. Along with this, the shocking cameos and high-voltage fight sequences in the film have kept the audience on the edge of their seats. Trade analysts believe that due to the positive word-of-mouth the film is receiving, the film is creating new records not only in South India but also in the Hindi belt and overseas.

After crossing the ₹700 crore mark on the 11th day itself, now everyone’s eyes are fixed on where this stormy journey of ‘Jailor 2’ will finally end. Looking at the pace with which the film is progressing, it is being speculated that it may very soon enter the club of ₹800 crore and beyond. No other big film is being released in theaters for the next few weeks, which will directly benefit ‘Jailor 2’ in increasing its earnings. Thalaivaa Rajinikanth has once again proved that when he comes on the big screen, all the old records are meant to be broken.
