At present, contradictory changes are being seen in the weather system across the country. On one hand, due to the arrival of North-East Monsoon and Cyclonic Circulation in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, torrential rains have intensified in the states of South India, on the other hand, Western Disturbance and movement of local clouds in North India have made the weather pleasant. According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over many parts of peninsular India on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Along with this, an alert has been issued for sporadic showers with thunder and strong winds in some districts of Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan. From the residents of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh to Delhi, Jaipur and the coastal cities of the south, people are keeping a close eye on this pattern of weather.
According to the Meteorological Department, South India will be the main center of heavy weather activities on October 18. There has been a warning of very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. During this period, there will be a risk of strong winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour and lightning.
Widespread rainfall is also expected over areas of Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka. There is a possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas of Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram and Bengaluru. At the same time, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema may also receive moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea off southwest Bay of Bengal and Gulf of Mannar as the sea is likely to be rough there.
In Uttar Pradesh, the weather is expected to be mainly dry and clear sky in most of the districts during the day time on October 18, but in some areas of Western Uttar Pradesh and adjacent Terai, there may be local dark clouds due to active cyclonic pressure at lower atmospheric level. Thunderstorm and light drizzle may occur in some pockets of Meerut, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Ghaziabad in the afternoon or evening.
In the capital Lucknow, the day will be sunny and the maximum temperature will reach around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature at night will fall to around 19 degrees Celsius. The day will be normal in Varanasi, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur of Purvanchal, but due to light mist and cold winds during late night and early morning, the feeling of pink coolness will deepen further.
According to meteorologists, the presence of cyclonic circulation has been recorded in the south-eastern part of Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Madhya Pradesh. Due to this, there is a possibility of light rain or showers with thunderstorms at some places in the districts of East Rajasthan—like Kota, Jhalawar, Baran, Chittorgarh and Sawai Madhopur on October 18.
On the contrary, the weather in Western Rajasthan (Jodhpur, Bikaner, Barmer and Jaisalmer) will remain completely dry. In the capital Jaipur, the maximum temperature is expected to be 32 degrees and the minimum temperature at night is expected to be around 21 degrees Celsius. There is a huge difference in temperature due to strong sunlight during the day and slight cold at night. Weather activities are expected to subside across Rajasthan from October 19.
The sky is likely to remain mainly clear in the national capital Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad on Sunday. The direct effect of western disturbance is now moving away from Delhi, due to which there is no significant possibility of rain. During the day, dry winds will blow from the north-west direction at a speed of 15 to 20 km/hour.
The maximum temperature in Delhi tomorrow is expected to be between 31 to 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be between 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. There will be lukewarm sunshine during the day, but after sunset the temperature will drop rapidly, due to which people will have to slow down the speed of fans at night.
