For the past few days, various kinds of confusion and rumors were going on in the minds of lakhs of students and their parents across the country regarding the passing criteria of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 10th examinations. The discussion was spreading rapidly on social media and various digital platforms that perhaps the board has made a major change in the rules for passing class 10th students, under which now students can get relief from the requirement of scoring 33 percent marks in each subject separately. Due to this type of misleading news, a situation of mental stress and doubt had arisen among the students and their parents, which was also affecting their studies. Putting a complete end to all these speculations and rumours, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an official and clear statement. The board has clearly announced that no change has been made in the passing rules of class 10th, and it will remain mandatory for the students to get minimum 33 percent marks in each subject as before to be successful in the examination. After this official clarification has come out, now all kinds of rumors have come to an end and it has become very easy for the students to decide the direction of their studies.
CBSE Board has always been vigilant in maintaining transparency in the field of education and protecting the interests of students, and that is why when fake news of changing passing rules started going viral on social media, the Board immediately took cognizance of it. Senior officials of the board clarified that due to some anti-social elements or information being shared without verification, there was a misconception among the students that if they get 33 percent marks in theory and practical combined, the students will be considered passed, even if they fail in the main examination. But the reality is that as per the existing rules of the Board, it is necessary for the student to follow the rules of both Internal Assessment and Board Examination. The board has appealed to all the schools, teachers and students not to pay attention to any kind of social media rumors and rely only on the information given on the official website, so that they do not have to face any kind of mental trouble at the time of examination.
As per the existing and unchanged CBSE Class 10th rules, any student is required to score at least 33 percent of the total marks in both internal assessment and written examination (Theory Exam) to be declared passed in the board exam. This means that the student must have scored a minimum of 33 marks (out of 100) in each of his/her subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Science, English and Hindi separately. If a student scores less than this prescribed limit in any one or two subjects, he is placed in the compartment category in that subject, and he has to prove his eligibility by taking the exam again. This strict rule of the board is considered very important to maintain academic discipline among the students and strengthen their foundation, because due to this the students do not make the mistake of taking any subject lightly and complete their studies with full hard work.
In today’s digital and social media era, it takes no time for any fake news to spread like wildfire, and this is why students are often misled without any solid basis. CBSE Board has strongly advised all the students and their parents to use only the official website of the Board, cbse.gov.in, for any kind of circular, datesheet, exam pattern or passing rules related information in future. One should avoid blindly trusting any unauthorized YouTube video or social media post, as it wastes both the precious time and attention of the students. Only the guidelines issued by the Board from time to time are final and valid, hence students should concentrate all their energy only in the best preparation for their Board Exams so that they can achieve success with flying colors.
Since the situation regarding passing rules is now completely clear, all the students of class 10th now have a golden opportunity to focus completely on their studies without any confusion. There is no shortcut to score good marks in board exams, rather studying regularly, solving previous years’ question papers and understanding the concepts of each subject deeply is the biggest key to success. All CBSE students studying in Uttar Pradesh and other states across the country should heave a sigh of relief from this official update and leave no stone unturned in their hard work. Only your concentration, right guidance and discipline will give you the success of your dreams in board exams.
