The political temperature in the state has suddenly risen after Mokama MLA Anant Singh, known as ‘Chhote Sarkar’ in Bihar politics, was expelled from Janata Dal United (JDU) for 6 years. The JDU leadership has taken this strict disciplinary action against him and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, for openly opposing the party’s authorized candidate during the Legislative Council (MLC) elections and attacking leaders of their own party.
Immediately after his expulsion, powerful leader Anant Singh, known for his outspoken and aggressive style, strongly targeted the party leadership and the current leaders. He bluntly said that as long as Nitish Kumar had direct control, there was discipline and respect in the party, but now that Nitish Kumar no longer has an active role, JDU has completely ceased to exist. Anant Singh claimed that because of the people who have together shown him the way out, his party will be limited to 10 to 12 seats in the upcoming elections.
While talking to reporters in Patna, Mokama MLA clearly said that he does not have even an iota of regret or sorrow for being thrown out of JDU. Raising the question, he said, “The party belonged to Nitish Kumar ji. Now that Nitish ji is not there, what is left in the party? What is the contribution of those who expelled me? If Nitish ji had remained completely active, then who would have had the courage to expel me from the party?”
Anant Singh alleged that some contractors and senior leaders of the party are trying to sink JDU for their personal political interests. He said that he has been loyal to the party for the last 18 years, but when some leaders hatched conspiracies against him, the party remained silent. Now when he supported the truth, immediate action was taken against him.
Revealing his next political move after being expelled from the party, Anant Singh has made it clear that he will not go to the doorstep of any other party to seek shelter, but will form his own new political party very soon. Smiling, he said, “I don’t need to go anywhere. The people’s mandate and the love of the people of Mokama are with me. We will form our own party and in the coming elections, these people will understand that the real power lies with the people, not in decisions taken behind closed doors.”
Political analysts believe that Anant Singh’s personal hold on the Bhumihar community in Mokama and surrounding areas is considered very strong. In such a situation, his separation from JDU and announcement of forming a new party can affect the political equations of Magadha and Shahabad in a big way.
Anant Singh’s expulsion is not just a punishment for rebellion, but it is believed to be the result of the ongoing internal fight for supremacy within JDU. During the Legislative Council elections for Patna Graduate seat, Anant Singh had openly opposed the party’s state chief spokesperson and candidate and campaigned aggressively against him.
At the same time, according to sources, after high-level meetings with Union Minister Lalan Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Chaudhary, it was decided to cancel the primary membership of Anant Singh and send a recommendation to the Assembly Speaker to cancel his assembly membership. On the other hand, there is a strong murmur among the old supporters of the party that by bringing forward Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar, the old satraps are being sidelined, due to which the possibility of further disunity within JDU in the coming days cannot be ruled out.
Anant Singh, who has ruled the politics of Mokama for the last two decades, has won the election on the symbols of Independent, RJD and JDU. His decision to form his own party may not only become a headache for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), but it may also give an opportunity to the opposition camp to work out new political equations.
Before the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, this rebellious style of ‘small government’ and their sharp attack on the existence of JDU has kept the eyes of political pundits of the entire state focused on the direction in which the politics of the state will turn.
