Amid the ongoing fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international market, oil marketing companies (OMCs) at the national level have released the new price list of petrol and diesel for September 20, 2026. Fuel prices remained largely stable in most states, including the national capital Delhi, according to rates updated at 6 am by Indian oil companies—Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL).
Due to variations in local VAT, state level taxes and transportation costs (freight charges), slight differences are being seen in the retail prices of petrol and diesel in different states and cities of the country.
Fuel rates in all four major metros remain at a stable level even today. In the national capital New Delhi, petrol is being sold at ₹ 102.12 per liter and diesel at ₹ 95.20 per liter. In the financial capital Mumbai, petrol has been recorded at ₹111.21 per liter and diesel at ₹97.83 per liter due to local taxes.
Today in Eastern Metropolitan Kolkata, petrol remains at the level of ₹ 113.51 per liter and diesel at ₹ 99.82 per liter. Whereas in Chennai, the major city of South India, 1 liter petrol is available at the price of ₹ 107.76 and diesel at ₹ 99.55. Petrol in major IT hub Bengaluru is stable at ₹110.82 per liter and diesel at ₹98.77 per litre.
Fuel rates in major commercial and residential centers of Uttar Pradesh are fixed on the basis of state level VAT. In the capital Lucknow, the price of 1 liter petrol has been recorded at ₹ 101.89 and diesel at ₹ 95.36 per litre. Even in the industrial city of Kanpur, the prices remain almost in the same range.
In major cities of NCR adjacent to Delhi, Noida and Greater Noida, petrol is available at ₹ 101.96 per liter and diesel at ₹ 95.44 per liter. Whereas in Gurugram (Gurgaon) of Haryana, petrol is running at the level of ₹ 102.97 per liter and diesel at ₹ 95.64 per liter. In the religious cities of Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur and Agra, petrol is being sold in the range of ₹ 101.50 to ₹ 102.30 per liter and diesel in the range of ₹ 95.00 to ₹ 95.80 per liter.
Oil prices are slightly higher than in metros due to higher local tax rates in other Hindi-speaking states:

Bihar (Patna): The price of petrol in Patna is around ₹ 105.40 to ₹ 106.00 per liter and diesel is around ₹ 92.80 to ₹ 93.50 per litre.

Rajasthan (Jaipur): Petrol price in Jaipur is ranging from ₹104.80 to ₹105.50 per liter and diesel is ranging from ₹90.30 to ₹91.00 per liter.

Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal and Indore): In Bhopal, petrol is stable at ₹106.50 to ₹107.20 per liter and diesel at ₹91.80 to ₹92.50 per liter due to state-level surcharge.
There is continuous fluctuation in the prices of Brent crude and WTI crude in the international energy market. India imports more than 85 per cent of its crude oil needs, so the exchange rate of the Indian rupee against international benchmarks and the US dollar plays the most important role in determining domestic retail prices.
