The country’s second largest private sector bank, ICICI Bank, has released a very important security update for crores of its account holders and net banking users. In compliance with the guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to safeguard banking websites from cyber fraud and clone websites, ICICI Bank has completely changed the official domain address of its main website and retail internet banking.
The Bank’s online services are now India specific and highly secure instead of the old generic ‘.com’ domain ‘.bank.in’ Have been transferred to the domain. The Bank has alerted all customers through official emails and notifications that they must now check the new official address (URL) while using the Bank’s services.
As part of the technical changes made by the Bank, the URL structure has been changed as follows:

Cyber criminals have often been duping innocent customers by creating fake websites (Phishing/Spoofing Websites) similar to the names of banks. For example, they would create clone portals with .com, .org or .net by making minor spelling changes.
RBI specially reserved banks ‘.bank.in’ Ordered to shift to domain. This exclusive domain is allotted only to authorized and regulated financial institutions after their stringent background checks and security audits. With this, no fake organization or cyber hacker can create a fake website similar to this extension.
On hearing the news of change of domain, the first question in the minds of customers was whether they would have to create a new password or re-register. The Bank has clearly assured:

No credentials will change: existing customers Customer ID (User ID), PasswordThis technical change will not have even the slightest impact on bank account number or transaction PIN.

No need to re-register: Users will be able to login to the new domain login page as normal with their old username and password.

New security feature in login (CAPTCHA): The Bank has created an additional wall of security on the Net Banking login page. ‘CAPTCHA’ Feature has been added. This will prevent automated bots and brute-force password hacking attacks.
To ensure that customers do not face any interruption in their daily banking work, the bank has advised them to take some important precautions:

Browser bookmark updates: If you have saved the old website or net banking link of ICICI Bank as a ‘Bookmark’ or ‘Shortcut’ in the browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge etc.) of your laptop, computer or smartphone, then immediately remove it and update it with the new URL (icici.bank.in).

Caution while clicking from search engines: While searching for a bank on Google or Bing, click only on the link whose web address officially ends with .bank.in.

Maintenance Alert: The bank has also informed that due to backend integration and scheduled maintenance, its mobile banking app ‘iMobile’ Railway services will also be temporarily affected for a few hours on September 19.
The bank has warned its customers that cyber fraudsters may take advantage of this wave of domain changes by sending fake SMS, WhatsApp messages or emails, which may read: “Your bank domain has changed, immediately click this link to activate your account and reset the password.”
ICICI Bank has clarified that the bank never asks any customer for his password, OTP, CVV or PIN over phone, SMS or email. Customers should avoid clicking on any unknown links and use net banking only by directly typing the correct URL in the address bar.
