Vaastu Gurus have a clear instruction that while worshiping, one should always face East or North, which means that the idols of God should be installed on the West or South wall in such a way that they face East or North. The back of any deity should never be towards the main door nor should the worshiper see the back of the idol of the God, because seeing the back of the God is considered inauspicious. Idols should always be kept at a distance of at least one or two inches from the wall so that the flow of air and energy around them remains smooth.
