Crisis arising due to drug addicts in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone: In the West African country of Sierra Leone, a psychoactive drug made from human bones has forced drug addicts to dig graves to get rid of the addiction. Reportedly, this horrific torture led to the imposition of emergency. Police officers in Freetown are swarming a cemetery to stop the bizarre practice of stealing human bones to make zombie drugs. The medicine known as Kush is made from a variety of poisonous ingredients and one of the main ingredients is human bone.

The use of synthetic drugs first began in West Africa six years ago and has now become a widespread problem in the country. To meet this demand, drug dealers have become serious robbers.

Chief Julius Maada Bio has warned of the serious danger of the drugs due to their terrible effects.

A task force to combat drug abuse has been announced and adequately staffed centers for drug abuse have been set up in every district. Authorities have been directed to break the drug supply chain through investigation, arrest and prosecution. Freetown is currently the only city in the country with a drug rehabilitation centre. However, it is being criticized for not having enough features.

The head of the Sierra Leone psychiatric hospital said the emergency move was vital to stop the drug taking effect.

No official number of deaths from the drug Kush has been released yet, but hundreds of young people are said to have died from drug-induced organ failure. Between 2020 and 2023, the number of admissions to Sierra Leone psychiatric hospitals due to CUST-related illness increased by four thousand percent.
