These days, along with the success of films at the Bollywood box office, a new battle has broken out regarding the screens. There is a huge tussle going on between Sunny Deol’s film ‘Bantwara 1947’ and Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’ regarding single-screen and multiplex screens. Theater owners who are struggling to balance between these two films are now facing another big challenge, and that is the release of South Superstar Yash’s upcoming mega budget film ‘Toxic’.
Why did the dispute increase between the distributors of ‘Partition 1947’ and ‘Awarapan 2’?
This entire fight is about screen sharing in theaters and the demand of the audience. It has been only a few days since the release of the film ‘Bantwara 1947’, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi, but due to the clash, it is struggling at the box office and in the first 5 days it has collected a net of about Rs 32 crore. The film’s distributors have put pressure on many single-screen theaters to run shows of their film.
On the other hand, Emraan Hashmi’s film ‘Awarapan 2’ (which also stars Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi) is getting a tremendous response from the audience and has made an impressive net collection of Rs 107.50 crore in just 6 days. Seeing the huge demand from the audience, single-screen owners want to run more and more shows of ‘Awarapan 2’. However, its distributors are demanding that all the shows of only their films be shown till next Thursday i.e. 27th August, due to which the problems of the theater owners have increased further.
Entry of ‘Toxic’ increases tension of theater owners
Amidst the ongoing feud between these two films, the release of South Star Yash’s much awaited film ‘Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups’ is nearing. This pan-India film directed by Geetu Mohandas has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Censor Board (CBFC) and its runtime is around 3 hours 14 minutes.
According to media reports, ‘Toxic’ is set to be released on approximately 12,000 screens worldwide, which could prove to be the biggest release of Yash’s career so far. The atmosphere in the market regarding the film is very positive, and once it hits the theatres, it can have a huge impact on the shows and collections of films like ‘Awarapan 2’ and ‘Bantwara 1947’. This is the reason why theater owners seem to be quite worried about striking a balance between the three big films in the coming days.
