Monsoon has started showing its fierce form in many parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai. Continuous torrential rains have greatly affected life. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for four districts of Maharashtra. According to the latest warning from the Meteorological Department, there is a strong possibility of torrential rain in these areas in the next few hours, in view of which the administration has been instructed to remain on full alert mode.

Special alert for four districts

Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted in the districts for which IMD has issued orange alert. During this period, rainfall ranging from 64 mm to 200 mm can be recorded. BMC has also kept its machinery ready to ensure that waterlogging does not arise in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. People living in coastal areas have been advised to take special precautions and not go near the sea. Due to torrential rains, there is a danger of water logging in low-lying areas, due to which disaster management teams have been deployed for any emergency.

Impact on traffic and safety measures

The direct effect of heavy rain is also visible on local train and road traffic. Visibility has reduced at many places due to rain, due to which the speed of traffic has slowed down. The administration has appealed to the citizens to avoid leaving the house unless it is absolutely necessary. According to IMD, these are active monsoon conditions which may persist for the next 24 to 48 hours. Keeping in view the intensity of rain in the coming time, the local administration will continue to issue updates from time to time on school-college holidays or precautionary measures.
