‘King’ of human trafficking, who printed Rs 1.27 crore every week, arrested in Britain: Seeking asylum with fake identity

Serious questions have once again been raised on Britain’s asylum system and security checks. Notorious Iraqi leader Twana Jamal, who has been sentenced to five years in human trafficking cases by French courts, has now been found searching for safe haven on British soil. This criminal, who was hiding in the small village of Blaby in Leicestershire, was waiting for an asylum decision on the basis of fake identity and documents, despite his past being extremely horrifying.

Used to run smuggling empire as ‘Pasha’

According to a BBC investigative report, Twana Jamal operated his smuggling network from migrant camps in northern France. He was known locally as ‘Pasha’ (Boss). Jamal’s network was so organized that he collected an average of 4500 pounds from every migrant going to Britain. He used to make the migrants cross the border by hiding them in trucks loaded with onions and cheese. The carbon dioxide emitted from the trucks helped him dodge detectors, allowing his business to continue uninterrupted. From this illegal business, he was earning about 1 lakh pounds every week i.e. about Rs 1.27 crore in Indian currency.

Gave open challenge to Britain’s rules

The surprising thing is that Jamal, who has spent five years in jail in France, is taking advantage of the legal process even after entering Britain. Under current UK immigration rules, asylum applications from people who have served a sentence abroad of more than a year should be automatically rejected, but Jamal’s application is still pending. While living in Blaby village, he was not only using a fake name but was also driving without a driving license. In a secret recording he boasted, “This city is ours, no one can touch us here.”

What is the connection of the second smuggler ‘Kardo Jaffa’?

As the investigation of this case progressed, another major revelation came to light. Another smuggler named Kardo Jaffe has also come on the radar of British security agencies. This person, who calls himself ‘Kardo Ranya’, is considered the kingpin of an international smuggling network spanning from Afghanistan to Britain. In the secret conversation, Jaffe claimed that he had trucks, planes and boats available to send to Britain. Its network operates from the Kurdistan region of Iraq, which has currently become one of the active bases of human trafficking.

Government’s clarification and growing concern

After these revelations, Britain’s Home Office has clarified that all asylum seekers are subjected to strict security and criminal background checks. However, the presence of criminals like Jamal and Jaffe has raised questions over the security policies of the British government. This case forces us to think whether Britain has become a safe haven for illegal immigrants? At present, after the revelations of these smugglers, the security agencies have intensified their investigation.
