A big update has come out for Indian cricket lovers. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the official schedule of the upcoming Test tour of India to be held in August. Galle and Colombo have been selected as hosts for this two-match Test series to be played under the World Test Championship (WTC). After the defeat in the last series against South Africa, the Indian team will be looking to regain its momentum on this tour.
Complete schedule and venue of the series
According to the announcement, the first Test match of the series will be played at the Galle International Stadium from 15 to 19 August. After this, the second and final Test match will be held from 23 to 27 August at the famous Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo. This series is India’s first Test tour of Sri Lanka since 2017, when the Indian team performed brilliantly and defeated the hosts 2-0. This tour is a great opportunity for the current team to improve its WTC ranking.
T20 series put on pause, busyness became the reason
There were long speculations about this tour that along with the Test series, a three-match T20 international series could also be played between India and Sri Lanka. However, there is no mention of T20 matches in the official release issued by Sri Lanka Cricket. According to reports, BCCI has made it clear citing the busy international schedule that playing the T20 series is not possible at present. The Indian team also has to play a series against Afghanistan soon after this, due to which the schedule has been limited to only Test matches.
Challenges ahead for the Indian team
The coming times for the Indian team are going to be very busy. Currently the team is busy in T20 and ODI series on England tour. After this, the team will play a three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe in late July and the Test mission in Sri Lanka will begin soon after. Amidst this challenging schedule, it will be a big challenge for the Indian team to maintain consistent performance in every format. Fans are hopeful that the Indian team will re-establish its dominance in this Test series to be held in August.
