The most important process of democracy, ‘Special Intensive Revision of Voter List’ (SIR) campaign has started in Karnataka, but this time the state government has adopted a very strict stance regarding it. Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has made it clear that registering one’s name in the voter list will no longer be just an electoral process but will also be a mandatory condition for availing government facilities. If a citizen’s name is deleted from the voter list, he may have to lose major public welfare schemes and pension benefits like ‘Griha Jyoti’ and ‘Griha Lakshmi’.
Save votes, save lives: DK Shivakumar’s appeal
Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, during a press conference, urged the public to take this campaign seriously. He said, “The eyes of the entire country are on Karnataka. I appeal to everyone to protect their right to vote, which is equivalent to the right to life.” The government has clarified that during the door-to-door survey, officials will ask you for some basic information and new photographs. It is your responsibility to submit the enumeration form on time, otherwise there is every possibility of your name being deleted from the list. This campaign will be run in Karnataka from June 30 to July 29.
New and easy way to get Residence Certificate (PRC)
Along with making the voter list error-free, the Karnataka government has completely digitalized and decentralized the process of issuing ‘Permanent Residence Certificate’ (PRC) in the state. The new guidelines issued by the Revenue Department aim to create a transparent and legally sustainable system. Now this certificate will be considered as official proof of permanent residence in the state and has been linked to ‘Karnataka Gross Services Act, 2011’ and digital administrative platform. With this, the general public will no longer have to wander to avail the benefits of government schemes.
Who will get the residence certificate? Know the eligibility criteria

Furthermore, the voter list, [Aadhaar Redacted] Or government documents like ration card will also be considered as Aadhaar.
