Keeping in mind the traditional procession and Tazia on the holy occasion of Muharram in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, the district administration and Ranchi Traffic Police have geared up for security and smooth traffic. In view of the huge crowd gathering on the city roads during the Muharram procession, a detailed traffic advisory has been issued for today and tomorrow. To avoid jams on the main roads of the capital and to avoid causing inconvenience to the general public, many major routes of the city have been completely diverted and no-entry of heavy and small vehicles has been implemented in many areas.

Vehicular movement will remain completely closed on these major routes

According to the guidelines issued by Ranchi Traffic Police, no type of vehicles will be allowed to operate on the main procession route of Muharram. The routes of vehicles going towards Albert Ekka Chowk, Main Road, Sujata Chowk, Sarjana Chowk and Shaheed Chowk have been completely changed. Apart from this, vehicles coming from Ratan PP, Kachari Road and Lalpur will also be sent through alternative routes. The administration has clarified that till the end of the procession, general traffic will be completely banned on these routes, hence common people should avoid going on these routes.

New time for no-entry of heavy vehicles and route diversion

To control traffic, major changes have also been made in the timing of heavy vehicles (buses and trucks) entering Ranchi city. From today afternoon itself, heavy vehicles will be stopped near the outer limits of the city like Buti Mod, Kantatoli, Khelgaon and Tupudana or they will be diverted towards the Ring Road. The routes of autos and e-rickshaws plying within the city will also be limited during the procession on the night of Muharram and the next day, so that the main procession can be conducted peacefully without any hindrance.

Special corridor will be open for emergency services

The traffic police has appealed to the general public to use only the alternative routes decided by the administration to avoid any inconvenience. However, a ‘green corridor’ has been specially arranged to ensure that ambulance, fire brigade and other emergency services do not face any kind of problem during this period. Additional traffic police forces and volunteers have been deployed at all major intersections of the city, who are continuously giving information about route changes through loudspeakers.
