Passenger van targeted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rescue team also attacked, 7 people tragically killed

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a highly disturbed and violence-hit area of Pakistan, has once again been rocked by massive bomb blasts. At least seven people died on the spot, while three others were seriously injured in two consecutive roadside IED blasts in Bannu district of the province on Saturday. Local police officials have officially confirmed this dreadful terrorist incident. However, so far no active terrorist organization or banned group has claimed responsibility for this cowardly suicide act. Immediately after the incident, security forces arrived in large numbers and cordoned off the entire area and started the search operation.

Two blasts back-to-back: First the passenger van was blown up, then the people who came to help were attacked.

According to initial information received from the police, the terrorists carried out this attack as part of a well-thought-out conspiracy. The first remote-controlled IED blast targeted a civilian passenger van in Marka Bera area of Bannu district. The explosion was so powerful that the van was blown to pieces and five innocent people traveling in it died on the spot.

Immediately after this incident, when nearby people and rescue team personnel reached the accident site to help the injured, the terrorists targeted them and detonated a second bomb at the same place. In this second dastardly blast, two more people lost their lives and a vehicle engaged in rescue operations was also completely damaged.

The van was going from Hathi Khel village to Bannu city, mourning spread in the hospital.

Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Yasir Afridi told the media that the targeted passenger van was carrying civilians from Hathi Khel village towards Bannu city when it was hit by an improvised explosive device planted on the main road.

The DPO said that the bodies of all the dead and blood-soaked injured were immediately admitted to the nearby district hospital, where the condition of some remains critical. Law enforcement agencies and forensic teams have started collecting gunpowder samples and other important evidence from the blast site to trace the clues to the terrorists.
