The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is going to open the online window of answer sheet re-evaluation and marks verification for class 12th students from today i.e. 29th May 2026. Any students who have any objection regarding their results, checking of copies, marking or totaling this year can apply officially from today.
As per the rules of the board, only those students will be considered eligible for this re-evaluation process, who have received the scanned digital copy of their answer sheet in the first phase. Due to the huge controversy this year regarding the Onscreen Marking (OSM) system, the Board is expected to receive lakhs of applications for revaluation.
A huge battle broke out on OSM: Even those with 99 percentile failed in 12th!
CBSE had released the 12th result on 13 May 2026. This year the overall pass percentage of the board has come down to 85.20% from last year’s 88.39%. The biggest reason for this decline is believed to be the On-Screen Marking System (OSM) implemented this time, under which about 98 lakh copies were checked digitally on the computer screen, while only 13,000 copies were checked manually.
Serious allegations by students and parents:
-
Outside 75% Criteria: Many such promising students have passed the country’s toughest engineering exam. 99 percentile in JEE Main have achieved, they could not even score the mandatory 75% marks in 12th board because of this OSM checking. Due to this, he is now on the verge of being out of the race for admission in IIT-NIT.
-
Step marking missing: The students allege that due to the copies not scrolling properly on the screen, the teachers were negligent in step-wise marking and gave zero or very low marks even on the correct answers.
-
Claim to change answer sheet: Many girl students, including the ‘Vedanta case’, have alleged that the scanned copies sent to them are not theirs or marks have been deliberately deducted from their multiple choice questions (MCQs).
In view of this huge controversy, it is being speculated that during re-evaluation, instead of checking the copies again on the screen, the experienced teachers of CBSE will check them. Manual method (by hand) Can check.
What are the rules and required fees for re-checking?
CBSE has laid down two main economic and practical rules for the re-evaluation process:
-
Marks Verification Fee: If students only want to re-total their marks or get their marks verified, they should Rs 100 per subject Fees will have to be paid.
-
Re-evaluation fee per question: If students want to re-check a specific answer after viewing the scanned copy, they should Rs 25 per question Fees will have to be paid accordingly.
-
Fee refund on increase in number: In the interest of the students, the board has made a big rule – if after re-checking the student 1 number also increasesthen the board will refund the fees charged for this entire process to the student.
-
Risk of falling numbers: Students have to keep in mind that after re-evaluation the marks may increase or decrease. If your marks are found to be less while rectifying any human or technical error, the marks in your final marksheet will be deducted.

How does CBSE’s OSM system work?
This process is completely digital. After the completion of the examination, first of all the main answer sheets (answer sheets) of all the students are scanned through high-speed scanners. After this these digital copies are uploaded to a secure cloud server of CBSE. Teachers check these copies on the computer screen from their home or evaluation center and give marks there itself. The biggest feature of this system is that the computer itself adds all the numbers, due to which the possibility of error in totaling becomes zero, however, this time due to screen visibility, serious questions have been raised on the marking.
