The controversy surrounding Bollywood’s much awaited film ‘Don 3’ is not stopping. The non-cooperation ban imposed on actor Ranveer Singh by ‘The Federation of Western India Cine Employees’ (FWICE) for walking out of the film at the last moment has shaken the entire film industry. There is a heated debate on this issue from social media to the corridors of Bollywood. Now, on this entire matter, veteran film industry actor Manoj Bajpayee and well-known director Sanjay Gupta have given their important reactions.
Being a colleague, I hope the matter will be resolved soon: Manoj Bajpayee
When news agency PTI talked to Manoj Bajpayee on this sensitive and heated issue, he adopted a very balanced and positive attitude. Manoj Bajpayee said:
“I would like to tell you one thing that all the people in the industry are reading about this on social media only. We do not have any detailed or detailed information about this entire controversy right now. But being a colleague and a member of this fraternity (cinema world), I can only say that we have full hope that this serious matter will be resolved as soon as possible.”
Sanjay Gupta raised questions: ‘What about the livelihood of the workers?’
Before Manoj Bajpayee, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta had directly objected to the decision of this ban. Talking about the welfare of workers on the social media platform X, he wrote:
“When an A-list hero shoots on the sets, more than 300 daily wage employees and workers work with him. By banning an actor, you are not just punishing him, but also stopping the daily income and livelihood of those innocent workers. What is the logic behind this move of the Federation?”
After all, what is the whole controversy of ‘Don 3’? (step-by-step)
The roots of this controversy go back to last year and now the matter has become completely public:
-
Farhan Akhtar suffered huge loss: Farhan Akhtar, one of the captains of the film, had approached FWICE (Workers’ Body) last year. He alleged that due to Ranveer Singh’s sudden decision to leave the film, he had to suffer a huge loss of about Rs 45 crore on account of productions and set preparations.
-
3 notices sent to Ranveer Singh: FWICE President Ashok Pandit told during a press conference that the association had taken action immediately after receiving the complaint. He continuously sent 3 official notices and 3 reminders to Ranveer Singh to come and resolve the issue through talks, but no response was received from Ranveer.
-
Matter of Jurisdiction: According to Ashok Pandit, when the Federation tiredly announced the ban on Ranveer in the press conference, then an email came from the actor’s team. In this email, Ranveer Singh clearly stated that this is his personal contractual issue and the Federation is not the right forum (jurisdiction) to intervene or speak in this matter.
Ranveer was going to become ‘Don’ after Amitabh and Shahrukh
It is noteworthy that Farhan Akhtar had officially announced ‘Don 3’ with an explosive teaser in August 2023. In this announcement, he had revealed that Ranveer Singh will now carry forward this iconic character of Hindi cinema.
Before Ranveer Singh, this timeless character was created in the cinema world by playing this timeless character, firstly by the megastar of the century Amitabh Bachchan (1978) and then by King Khan Shahrukh Khan (Don 1 and Don 2). In such a situation, Ranveer’s exit from the film and the ban imposed on him has raised a big question mark on the future of ‘Don 3’.
