These days, Western Europe is facing a natural disaster which no one had even imagined. Countries like Britain and France, which are famous for their cold weather, are witnessing deadly and severe heat waves like June-July during the spring season. The situation has become so uncontrollable that on Tuesday, Britain broke its century-old all-time high temperature record for the second time in just 24 hours. In view of this deadly heatwave, governments of many countries have issued emergency warnings. At the same time, there are reports of painful deaths of many people due to drowning in the sea, lakes and pools of Britain and France while trying to get relief from the heat.
Historical records collapsed in Britain and France, rare “Tropical Night” recorded
According to Britain’s Meteorological Department (Met Office), the mercury was recorded at 35.1 degrees Celsius in London’s famous Kew Gardens. The surprising thing is that just a day ago the record of 34.8 degrees Celsius made here was also broken. These early and shocking figures have completely destroyed the decades-old record of 32.8 degrees Celsius, set in 1922 and repeated in 1944.
Along with this, a very rare “Tropical Night” has also been recorded in London, which simply means that the temperature here did not fall below 20 degrees Celsius even at night.
On the other hand, in France also the Sun God is spewing fire. On Monday, the temperature in south-western France reached a record-breaking 36 degrees Celsius and here too the night temperature remained above 20 degrees Celsius. Explaining the reason for this devastating weather, France’s national meteorological department ‘Météo-France’ said that due to a powerful high-pressure system, a dangerous situation like ‘Heat Dome’ has been created in the entire area. Due to this, the temperature has gone up by more than 10 degrees Celsius above the normal average temperature of this season.
The biggest alarm of climate change: Scientists said – shocking disaster
With the ever increasing temperature of the earth, global warming and weather patterns are becoming increasingly unpredictable and violent. Environmental experts clearly say that these deadly disasters occurring unseasonably and in non-traditional cold places are putting human existence in great danger.
Expressing deep concern over this crisis, Peter Thorne, director of the ICARUS Climate Research Center at Maynooth University in Ireland, said, “There is no longer any doubt that due to climate change caused by indiscriminate emissions of greenhouse gases, the incidence of such deadly heatwaves is not only increasing, but also taking extremely aggressive and serious forms.” He further said that the speed at which records are being broken in cold countries like Britain and France is very scary and surprising.
People are suffering without AC, metro stalled and fire raging in the mountains.
Homes, schools, offices and public transport in Britain, a country with generally mild and cool climates, are not designed for air conditioning (AC) systems. In such a situation, lakhs of passengers traveling in the London Subway (Metro) without AC looked sweaty and distressed. The movement of trains to and from London’s busiest Waterloo station had to be completely stopped after reports of smoke rising on the tracks due to the scorching heat.
On the other hand, the situation in Scotland also became worse, where a massive fire broke out in the dry grass of ‘Arthur’s Seat’, the historic hill above Edinburgh, which firefighters had to work hard throughout the night to extinguish. In view of this dire situation, the UK Health Security Agency has issued ‘Amber Health Alert’ for a large part of the country till Thursday and has strictly advised the elderly and children to stay indoors during the day.
Many people lost their lives while trying to get relief from the heat, dead bodies lay on the beaches
Due to this unseasonal heat and sudden heatwave, there has been huge loss of life and property in Europe. Since summer has arrived much ahead of schedule, regular deployment of lifeguards on the beaches could not be done, which became the biggest reason for this tragedy.

Condition of Britain: According to administrative officials, at least four teenagers, who entered lakes, ponds and dangerous reservoirs to escape the heat, died due to drowning. At the same time, a 60-year-old man lost his life by drowning in the strong waves of the sea in south-west England.

Outcry in France: French government spokeswoman Maud Bregne said in an official statement that at least seven deaths related to the extreme heat and heatwave have been confirmed. Five of these people died due to drowning in the sea and swimming pools, while two players died due to heat stroke during sports competitions. Two tourists died due to drowning in the sea on Sunday in the popular resorts of France’s Gironde region.
Spain and Italy are also in bad condition, suffering like ‘mid-summer’ in May itself
The scope of this unseasonal and dreadful heat has now spread to Spain and Italy. “In the month of May we are seeing temperatures that usually occur in the middle of the scorching mid-summer of July-August,” Spanish Meteorological Department spokesman Ruben del Campo said in a scary statement.
Temperatures in the Spanish city of Seville soared past 38 degrees Celsius over the weekend, marking 5 to 10 degrees Celsius above normal across much of the Iberian Peninsula. Apart from this, the mercury crossed 32 degrees Celsius in Italy’s historical capital Rome on Tuesday, due to which the entire Europe is suffering from the scorching heat.
