The controversies surrounding the Class 12 evaluation process of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are not going away. After the release of scanned copies of answer sheets, a new and very serious phase of irregularities has started. Hundreds of students and their worried parents across the country have opened a front on the social media platform ‘X’ (earlier Twitter).
Students allege that important pages are missing from the digital copies sent by the board, ‘zero’ marks have been given even on correct answers and formulas and scanned copies are not being provided on time even after paying huge fees. This controversy is gaining momentum at a time when students are preparing to join the admission process of colleges for higher education.
22nd page missing from copies, zero marks given even on correct MCQ: Parents angry
Many well-known faces and parents have cornered CBSE against this mess on social media by sharing authentic screenshots:
-
Geetu Mojo (Parent): While sharing his daughter’s ordeal on ‘X’, he wrote that his daughter got the scanned copies of four subjects, but only the 22nd main page of one answer sheet was missing. He made a serious allegation that marks were deducted even on many answers which exactly matched the official answer key of CBSE. He expressed concern that this huge difference of 30-35 marks can ruin the entire future and college admission of any student.
-
Anuradha Tiwari (User): He raised questions on the technology of the board by attaching screenshots of pages of NCERT books. He wrote that the so-called OSM evaluation system of CBSE is playing with the future of the students. Officially, students were given ‘0’ marks despite giving correct answers to multiple choice questions (MCQs) and mandatory ‘step marking’ was not given even for writing the correct formula.
-
Akshay Gupta (Parent): He complained that he had applied for his daughter’s Physics answer sheet as per the prescribed procedure and had made the full payment, but it was still showing as ‘not available’ on the portal, while copies of other subjects had been received.
“I am completely broken, the answer sheet is not mine”: The pain of the victims came to the fore.
Many candidates, who are facing mental stress due to this alleged negligence of the board, have made public their pain and the data related to the pendency of copies:
Ashish (class 12th student): “I am completely heartbroken. After scoring lower than expected marks in Physics, I had asked for a photocopy of the answer sheet through the re-evaluation process. Today, when I downloaded my copy from the portal, I was shocked. The Physics answer sheet uploaded by CBSE is not mine at all! It is a copy of some other candidate.”
Krish Kumar (Roll No: 22617312): “I had paid the fees for 3 main subjects on 22nd May itself, but I have received only 2 copies and 1 is still missing. Earlier the status of ‘Submitted’ and ‘Pending’ was showing on the portal, but now nothing is showing there. I want to get my copies as soon as possible.”
Similarly, students Animesh Ghosh and Bhavya Saini have also said that they have not received the scanned copy even after paying Rs 200. Meanwhile, student Krish Raj, citing the marking scheme, said that marks of only 3 correct MCQs out of his 9 were added, while question numbers 29(D) and 30(D) were not checked even though they were absolutely correct. Victim student Khanak says that CBSE should have provided better facilities for digital tracking in this technological era. She will now resort to reparation for justice.
Students across the country are surprised to see the answer sheet and portal; These 7 big questions are being raised:
Students have raised the following technical questions regarding the official CBSE revaluation and the functioning of the OSM portal:
-
Blur Scanning: How did CBSE examiners check such blurry and blurry scan copies? Is this why marks were deducted for correct answers?
-
Rigging in MCQ marking: Why were zero marks given even for absolutely correct answers to OMR and multiple choice questions?
-
Fee portal discrepancy: Why is there no transparency regarding fees on the re-evaluation portal? Why are the fees being inflated?
-
Exchange of answer sheets: How did such a big mistake happen in the coding of copies that the answer sheet of one student went to the account of another? How did the pages disappear?
-
Ignoring step marking: In subjects like science and mathematics, why were the marks awarded for correct formulas and solving half the questions correctly, cut off?
-
Pending of copies: Why have the scanned copies of thousands of students not been released yet, even after several days of payment?
-
Incomplete report: Why are copies of all applied subjects being given in installments instead of being made available at once?
“Breach claim is completely fake, our system is impenetrable”: CBSE’s official stand
Amidst all these allegations and the uproar on social media, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has strongly defended its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Rejecting the claims of hacking of the portal or leakage of data, the Board said that the actual evaluation system of CBSE is completely secure, confidential and impenetrable, there has been no breach of any kind in it.
In fact, recently a student had claimed on social media that on February 26, he had discovered several technical flaws in the security of CBSE’s OSM portal and had informed the Central Government about it. Clarifying on this, CBSE said that the URL cited by the said student was a dummy site used only for internal testing and not the main assessment database. Key data is completely secure.
Revaluation portal to be live by May 29; Union Education Minister gave strict instructions
Giving relief to the students, the Board has announced that the online application portal for detailed re-checking of copies and revaluation will be open. till 29th may It will be started in any case. According to the official data of the board, till the evening of May 26, more than 4 lakh digital applications have been received from across the country to get the scanned copy. This year, a total of more than 11 lakh answer sheets were demanded by the students, out of which the board has so far made around nine lakh copies available online through digital medium.
Taking cognizance of this entire mega-controversy, the country’s Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has adopted a tough stance to protect the interests of the students. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “CBSE’s payment and service system will be made highly secure, transparent and fast. Students should not face any kind of technical difficulty in paying fees for revaluation and other essential services. We have given strict instructions to all concerned banks that if any payment fails due to technical glitch or excess amount is deducted from the account of a student, the banks should ensure immediate arrangement for auto-refund.”
