The political temperature has reached sky high amid the re-polling being held on Thursday in the high-profile Phalta assembly seat of South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. During this re-polling after the change of power in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed another big and historic victory. BJP candidate from Falta seat, Devanshu Panda has expressed complete satisfaction over the security and process of voting. Saying that there is a peaceful and festive atmosphere in the area, he has taken a dig at Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jahangir Khan in a filmy style.
“The atmosphere here is like a festival, BJP’s victory is certain.”
During an exclusive conversation with news agency ANI, BJP candidate Devanshu Panda appeared very confident. After taking stock of the polling booths, he said that this time there is no fear among the voters and their enthusiasm is visible.
Panda said, “The atmosphere here is absolutely fine and peaceful at the moment, voters are not facing any problem. People are coming out of their homes very happily and casting their vote fearlessly. This scene is like a democratic festival and BJP’s victory in this fair election is absolutely certain.” Panda further made a big claim and said that this time the people of Falta are going to send BJP to the assembly by making them win by a huge margin of more than 1.5 lakh votes.
‘Pushpa’ taunts TMC’s Jahangir Khan
During the press conference and conversation, Devanshu Panda recently took on TMC’s strongman Jahangir Khan who left the field just before the elections. Taking the help of a famous film dialogue, he joked and said, “I really don’t know where ‘Pushpa’ (Jahangir Khan) is missing at this time. The fact is that he has now got a good idea of the ground reality. He has come to know that the public is not going to give him more than 5 to 7 thousand votes this time, that is why to save his honor, he is running away from the elections and is talking big.”
Know why re-voting is happening in Falta?
It is noteworthy that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had given strict orders to cancel the election here and re-poll after reports of large-scale rigging, violence and electoral irregularities in Falta seat during the main phase of West Bengal Assembly elections held on April 29. According to the Election Commission, it was necessary to take this strict step only after concrete complaints of violating democratic norms and serious electoral crimes.
On Thursday, voting began at all 285 polling booths of Falta Assembly constituency at 7 am under tight security, which will continue till 6 pm. Apart from Falata, on the instructions of the Election Commission, re-voting is also being held at 15 selected booths of West Magrahat and Diamond Harbor assembly constituencies. The counting of votes cast on all these seats and the official announcement of the results will be made on May 24.
At the last moment, Jahangir Khan withdrew his steps.
It is very interesting that earlier this week, TMC’s senior leader Jahangir Khan had made a shocking announcement of completely distancing himself from the process of Falta re-polling. He played an emotional card by calling a press conference and said that he is the son of the soil of Falata and does not want any kind of violence but peace and development in his area. However, the top leadership of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) immediately distanced itself from this statement and made it clear that this is a completely personal decision of Jahangir Khan, the party has no instructions or anything to do with it.
Earlier, during the main elections, Devanshu Panda had made serious allegations against Jahangir Khan and his supporters of intimidating voters and large-scale booth capturing. Panda says that in this fair voting being held in the presence of central forces, the public is going to give a big mandate to BJP by rejecting the repressive forces.
