New Delhi. Amidst the scorching heat and increasing heat wave across the country, the Education Department has taken an important decision regarding the safety of children. The timing of operation of schools has been changed from May 1, 2026 in many states including Uttarakhand. The aim of the administration is clear – to protect children from the scorching afternoon sun and the danger of heat stroke.

Uttarakhand – Now schools will open at 7:30 am, holidays will be at 1:30 pm

On the instructions of Uttarakhand Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, the new time-table has been implemented in all the government schools of the state. Earlier schools used to run from 7:45 am to 2:05 pm, but now in the new system schools will open at 7:30 am and will be closed at 1:30 pm. This change is considered especially necessary in view of the rising temperatures in the plains.

School timings changed in UP, Rajasthan and Odisha also

In most of the districts in Uttar Pradesh including Noida, Ghaziabad and Prayagraj, the timings of schools from class 1 to 12 have been changed from 7:30 am to 12:30 noon. In Odisha, considering the severity of the heat, classes are being conducted only from 6:30 to 10:30 in the morning.

Provision of water, ORS and glucose is mandatory – strictness on private schools also

The administration has not only changed the timings but has also issued strict instructions for health safety. It has been made mandatory to ensure adequate availability of drinking water, ORS and glucose in all schools. Along with government, all private schools will also have to strictly follow these orders and departmental action can be taken if the rules are violated.

Ground effect will be visible from May 2, parents welcomed

Due to Labor Day being a public holiday on May 1, the actual effect of this revised time-table will be visible from May 2. The Meteorological Department has warned that the mercury will rise further in the coming days. Parents have strongly welcomed this decision of the government.
