The statement said, 'On the request of the Government of Maldives, the Government of India has given approval to export certain essential commodities in certain quantities. In addition, the quota for each item exported has been increased and the quantity permitted for export is the highest since the system was introduced in 1981. The volume of exports permitted reflects India's commitment towards the development of Maldives.

This revised quota has seen an increase in important commodities like river sand and stone. This is extremely important for the construction sector in Maldives. The export limit of these materials has been increased by 25 percent, resulting in a total of 10 lakh metric tonnes becoming available for export. Apart from this, the export limit of various essential food items like eggs, potatoes, onions, sugar, rice, wheat flour and pulses has been increased by five percent.
