News India Live, Digital Desk: The seat of Moradabad, known as ‘Brass City’ in the politics of Uttar Pradesh, has at present become a question of prestige for the BJP. If we look at the electoral history of the district since its formation in 1980, the BJP is desperate to repeat the charisma it had done across the state in the 2017 assembly elections. The saffron camp has already started the siege to register victory on this strategically important seat. The party’s aim is not only to achieve victory but also to demolish the impenetrable fort of its opponents which has stood in the way of BJP for decades.

Game of political equations since 1980

The history of Moradabad seat has been quite interesting. The region’s politics has seen many ups and downs since the 1980s. This seat, once a bastion of socialists and sometimes supporting the Congress, has always posed a big challenge to the BJP. If we look at the figures, BJP tried to take lead here several times, but coalition politics and local equations kept it away from the pinnacle of power. Now the BJP high command has started working here under ‘Mission Moradabad’ on the basis of new faces and ground feedback.

Challenge to repeat performance like 2017

BJP strategists believe that if the party has to maintain its dominance in western Uttar Pradesh, then victory in Moradabad is essential. On the same lines as the party had given record breaking performance in the 2017 elections, this time too the workers are being activated at the booth level. Party sources say that this time there is a preparation to change history on the basis of claims of development and beneficiaries (beneficiary class) of central and state government schemes. This time the party has decided to avoid any kind of factionalism and enter the field unitedly.

Stirring in the opposition camp, trying to do caste arithmetic

This aggressive preparation of BJP has given sleepless nights to the opposition parties. In view of the large number of Muslim and Dalit voters in Moradabad, the opposition is trying to save its old ground. However, this time with the slogan of ‘Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas’, BJP is trying to make a dent in those areas which were once considered the safe vote bank of the opposition. According to experts, this political battle of Brass City is going to be very interesting this time, because BJP has put all its strength to end its drought since 1980.
