News India Live, Digital Desk: New equations of ‘coalition religion’ have emerged in the politics of Bihar and Jharkhand. Amidst the excitement of Bihar Assembly elections 2025, a big news has come from the political corridors of Jharkhand. It is being told that on the special recommendation of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav have fielded one or two candidates in the Bihar elections. This move not only reflects the growing closeness between the two parties, but also repays the ‘debt’ of the last Jharkhand elections, where Hemant Soren had given respectable seats to RJD.
Tejashwi’s seal of approval on Hemant’s ‘choice’
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had initially staked claim on 7 assembly seats in Bihar. However, in view of the complex equations of seat sharing within the Grand Alliance, Tejashwi Yadav found a middle path by letting 1-2 candidates of Hemant Soren’s choice contest on the RJD symbol instead of giving seats directly to JMM. According to sources, these candidates have been selected keeping in mind the border areas (Jharkhand-Bihar border), where JMM’s influence can be useful to RJD.
Jharkhand’s ‘revenge’ complete in Bihar!
This political transaction is being seen in the context of Jharkhand Assembly elections 2024. Under the India alliance in Jharkhand, Hemant Soren had given 6 seats to RJD, out of which RJD had registered a spectacular victory on 4. After the formation of Hemant government, Soren had shown his commitment towards the alliance by giving place in the cabinet to RJD’s Godda MLA Sanjay Prasad Yadav. Now, by accepting Hemant Soren’s recommendation in Bihar elections, Tejashwi Yadav has taken that ‘political etiquette’ forward.
Message of strength of alliance
Political experts believe that this decision of Tejashwi Yadav is going to fill the enthusiasm among the workers of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. This has sent a message that the constituent parties of the Indian alliance are not only working for their own victory but also for the honor and respect of their allies. However, there is some hidden resentment among some contenders within the RJD regarding this ‘external recommendation’, but the leadership has called it a necessary sacrifice for the ‘big goal’.
Opposition’s taunt: “Lantern rests on borrowed faces”
The NDA alliance has taken a dig at this development. BJP leaders say that RJD no longer has its own winning candidates, hence it has to ask for a list of names from the Chief Minister of the neighboring state. Terming it a “coalition of compulsion”, the opposition said that the people of Bihar will vote not on the basis of external recommendations, but in the name of development.
