News India Live, Digital Desk: If the date of birth in your Aadhar card is wrong and you are tired of visiting offices to get it corrected, then this news can prove to be a big relief for you. Patna High Court has now taken a very strict stance regarding the rules for correcting date of birth in Aadhaar card. The court has made it clear that corrections in people’s important documents cannot be stopped merely by citing technical rules.
High Court summoned UIDAI Patna Director
A single bench of Justice RK Choudhary, hearing a petition, has ordered the regional director of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to appear in the court in person. The case pertains to a petitioner whose date of birth was wrongly entered in the Aadhaar card and the same was not being corrected due to technical constraints. Expressing displeasure over this, the court said that a person’s fundamental rights or services should not be hampered due to an error in an important document like Aadhaar.
Will the rule of correction become easy only once?
Currently, as per UIDAI rules, date of birth in Aadhaar can be updated only once. If someone wants to get the correction done again, he has to go through a long and complicated process, which involves visiting the regional office. After this activism of the High Court, it is believed that now UIDAI will have to bring flexibility in its processes, so that people do not face problems in genuine cases.
What will be its impact on the general public?
This intervention of the court has given hope not only to Bihar but also to lakhs of people across the country who are struggling with the problem of ‘Limit Cross’ in Aadhaar. It is often seen that due to different date of birth in school certificate or PAN card and different date of birth in Aadhaar, people’s pension, government job and bank related work gets stopped. Now Patna High Court will hold a detailed hearing in this matter and decide what should be the simple way to improve such situations.
A big decision will be taken in the next hearing
The court has directed the Regional Director to appear on the next date and explain why the process of Aadhaar correction is not being made accessible to the common man. Can technical software supersede a person’s legal documents? Now UIDAI will have to answer all these questions. The next hearing of this case is going to be held soon, on which everyone’s eyes are fixed.
