News India Live, Digital Desk: In Nalanda district of Bihar, on the morning of Thursday, April 2, 2026, the atmosphere of happiness turned into mourning. A sudden stampede during a religious ritual organized in Paithna village under Rahui block of the district destroyed many happy families. In this horrific accident, 8 women died tragically, while dozens of people were injured. But the most poignant aspect of this tragedy is that due to the untimely death of these 8 mothers, a total of 34 children have become orphans, whose mother’s support has been snatched away forever.
Gudiya narrated the story of the orgy of death she saw through her eyes. Recalling the horrific scene, Gudiya Kumari, an eyewitness to the accident, told how everything was over in a moment. Gudiya said sobbing, “We were all standing in a queue for puja, when suddenly a pushing and shoving started from behind. People started falling on each other. In front of my eyes, eight women fell on the ground and the crowd moved forward crushing them. They were in agony, struggling to breathe, but there was no one to save them.” According to Gudiya, the crowd was so large that the security arrangements deployed there proved inadequate.
34 innocent people now face a dark future The 8 women who lost their lives in this accident left behind 34 crying children. Many of these children are so young that they do not even know the meaning of the word ‘death’. Four small children of deceased Shanti Devi are crying clinging to the mortal remains of their mother. Villagers say that the gross negligence of the administration has put the future of these innocent people in darkness. The stove is not lit in every house of the village and only screams are heard all around.
Stir among administrative staff, Chief Minister expressed grief As soon as information about the stampede was received, the district administration and police forces reached the spot and the injured were sent to Bihar Sharif Sadar Hospital and Pawapuri Medical College for treatment. Expressing deep grief over this incident, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of the deceased. Also, he has instructed the DM and SP to conduct a high-level investigation into the incident so that strict action can be taken against the culprits.
Big questions raised on security system Villagers allege that the crowd gathered for the program was much larger than expected, but police deployment was very less. Due to the small exit door, the pressure increased and a major accident occurred. Now the question arises whether the compensation amount will be able to compensate those 34 children for the loss of their mother? At present there is a wave of mourning in the entire district and people will never forget this dark morning.
