After the Supreme Court’s decision, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and CBSE have made it clear that primary teachers holding B.Ed degree can continue in their jobs only if they complete 6 months’ service within two years of appointment. ‘Bridge Course’ Get it done.
Why did 6 month bridge course become mandatory?
The Supreme Court had clarified in its order that ‘D.El.Ed’ is the main qualification for primary education. B.Ed holders require a special training to understand the nuances of primary education and the psychology of young children. To fulfill this deficiency, a 6-month bridge course has been designed through NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling).
Strict guidelines of CBSE
CBSE has issued instructions to all its affiliated schools to prepare a list of teachers posted there who have got appointment in primary classes on the basis of B.Ed. These teachers will have to complete this course through NIOS within the stipulated time limit. If a teacher fails to do so, his or her qualifications may be at risk.

Duration: This course will be of total 6 months duration.
Institute: Mainly through NIOS, it will be conducted in online and distance learning mode.
Eligibility: Those teachers who are B.Ed degree holders and appointed for classes 1-5.
Importance: Without this course, B.Ed degree holders may be considered ‘invalid’ as primary teachers.
What will be the impact on teachers?
This rule will provide relief to thousands of teachers whose jobs were at stake after the Supreme Court’s decision. After completing the bridge course, their appointment will be legally protected. However, it has now become almost impossible for new B.Ed holders to become primary teachers directly as priority is being given to D.El.Ed holders.
