News India Live, Digital Desk: Taking a hot water bath in winter is such a relief that no one wants to miss. But we all also know that it can be harmful for our skin and hair. So the question is, is there a trade-off between comfort and health? It absolutely is!

You don’t have to give up hot showers, you just have to be smarter about how you shower. This guide will tell you what to do and what not to do while bathing in winter.

What to do (The Do’s)

  1. Keep the time less than 10 minutes: The longer you stay under hot water, the more moisture your skin will lose. Try to finish your shower in 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Apply oil just before taking bath (Pre-Bath Oiling): This is an old but very effective recipe. Apply coconut or mustard oil on your body 10-15 minutes before bathing. This oil will form a protective layer over your skin, preventing the hot water from stripping you of moisture.
  3. Moisturize within 3 minutes of showering: After bathing, the pores of the skin are open and it is in the best condition to absorb moisture. Immediately after patting dry with a towel (when the skin is still slightly damp), apply a good, thick moisturizer all over the body.

What not to do (The Don’ts)

  1. Rubbing the body with a towel: The skin is very delicate after bathing. Rubbing it vigorously with a towel can increase dryness and irritation. Always use a soft towel and pat dry gently.
  2. Use of hard soap: In winter, use soap or body wash that is mild and contains moisturizer. Harsh and overly foaming soaps dry out the skin even more.
  3. Washing hair daily: Washing hair with hot water every day in winter can cause the scalp to become dry and the hair to become lifeless and start breaking. Do not wash hair more than two or three times a week.

By adopting these easy tips, you can enjoy bathing in winter and also keep your skin and hair healthy and shiny.
