News India Live, Digital Desk: It is said that the law has a long arm and the culprit is caught one day or the other. One such case has come to light from Ghaziabad, where the special CBI court has sentenced a bank manager guilty of taking bribe to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment. This decision is a lesson for all those who misuse their position to harass the common man.
What is the whole matter?
This story happened many years ago, in 2017. A person named Rakesh Kumar wanted to take a loan of Rs 5 lakh under the ‘Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme’ to start his business. For this he applied in the Canara Bank branch located in Loni area of Ghaziabad. The branch manager there, Mukesh Kumar, demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from Rakesh Kumar in exchange for passing the loan.
When CBI laid its trap
Rakesh Kumar was an honest citizen and did not want to pay bribe. He showed courage and on 13 November 2017 went straight to CBI and lodged a complaint against the bank manager. As soon as the complaint was received, CBI started its action and made a plan to catch the bribe manager red handed.
As per the plan, two days later i.e. on 15 November 2017, as soon as Manager Mukesh Kumar took a bribe of Rs 25,000 from Rakesh Kumar in his office, the pre-prepared CBI team caught him red handed.
Court sentenced
The hearing in this case went on in the court for years. CBI presented strong evidence and witnesses before the court that he was caught taking bribe. Based on all the evidence and statements of witnesses, Judge Shivank Singh of the special CBI court in Ghaziabad found Mukesh Kumar guilty of corruption.
The court has sentenced the guilty bank manager to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. The court also made it clear that if the fine is not paid, the convict will have to undergo additional 6 months of ordinary jail. This decision gives a big message against corruption.
