News India Live, Digital Desk: The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has given a big gift to lakhs of paddy farmers and rice mill operators of the state. The government has decided to increase the recovery rebate on threshing of non-hybrid paddy by one percent. This step is expected to directly benefit about 13 to 15 lakh farmers and more than 2000 rice mills of the state.

What is this recovery discount and why is it important?

When rice mills purchase paddy from farmers and thresh it, a standard is set as to how much rice will be produced from one quintal of paddy. Many times, due to weather conditions or other reasons, the quality of paddy is affected, due to which rice is produced less than the prescribed standard. This causes loss to the mill owners. To compensate for this loss, the government gives them some percentage relaxation in recovery.

How much discount will you get now?

Yogi government was already giving 3 percent recovery rebate on harvesting of hybrid paddy. Now after this new decision, an additional discount of one percent will be given on non-hybrid paddy also. The government will reimburse Rs 167 crore under this relief package. It is noteworthy that the government has already been reimbursing an average of Rs 100 crore every year, but with this additional relief this amount will increase to Rs 167 crore.

How will farmers and mill owners benefit?

This decision of the government will have a positive impact on the entire process:

  • Benefits to farmers: With the increase in recovery rebate, rice mill operators will now show more enthusiasm in purchasing paddy from farmers. This will speed up the paddy procurement process and farmers will be able to get timely payment for their crops.
  • Relief to mill owners: Millers will get relief from possible losses incurred in threshing paddy, so that they will be able to participate in the government procurement process without any hesitation.
  • Employment will increase: The government estimates that this initiative will strengthen about two lakh employment opportunities in the state and will also promote investment in agro-based industries.
  • UP will become self-reliant: With this decision, Uttar Pradesh will become self-reliant in food grain production and processing. Now the state will not need to import rice from other states for the Public Distribution System (PDS), which will also lead to savings at the national level.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that this decision will increase both transparency and competition in the government procurement process. This step is being considered an important step towards realizing the goal of “Prosperous Farmers, Strong State”.
