Evidence of identity card or citizenship? Know the whole truth:

Aadhar card! Nowadays, from taking SIM cards to opening a bank account, it needs everywhere. This has become the biggest evidence of our identity. But is this also evidence of our citizenship?

Most people will answer, “Yes, of course!”. But wait, here we are all making a very big mistake. The head of UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), a government organization that makes Aadhaar card itself, has given a very big and necessary information on this.

What did UIDAI clear?
UIDAI CEO Amit Aggarwal has clearly stated that Aadhaar card is proof of living in India, not citizenship. This means that the Aadhaar card suggests that you live in India, but do not prove that you are the citizens of India.

Then what is the difference? Let’s understand in easy language
Understand this with an example. Anyone who is a citizen of another country (eg Nepal, Bangladesh or America), but is legally living in India for studies or jobs, he can also make his Aadhaar card.

The rule of Aadhaar says that any person, irrespective of the country, has been in India for more than 182 days (ie about 6 months) in the last 12 months, then he can apply for the Aadhaar card.

Aadhaar card is a proof of your biometric identity (fingers, eyes pupil) and your address.

Whereas, Citizenship There is a separate legal right. Citizenship proves which country you belong to and what are your responsibilities and rights towards that country. Documents like passport, birth certificate or voter ID card are more important to prove India’s citizenship.

Why did this thing come to the fore?
This whole matter has come up in the context of elections in Bihar, where questions are often raised about the investigation of documents. UIDAI has tried to remove the confusion by giving this explanation that sees Aadhaar by associating with citizenship.

So remember from next time, Aadhaar is a strong document for your identity and address, but it is not a certificate of your Indian citizenship.
