Poison claims in Yamuna are dangerous for national security, LG’s letter to Atishi

LG to Atishi Letter 173452132714

The issue of dirty water of Yamuna river in Delhi remained in the discussion on Tuesday. Chief Minister Atishi blamed the Haryana government for this situation and demanded the Election Commission to intervene in it. At the same time, the BJP appealed to the Election Commission to stop his publicity activities, terming the statement of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal irresponsible. In this dispute, by evening, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena also got entry.

LG VK Saxena, while writing a letter to Chief Minister Atishi, said that misleading allegations like poisoning and massacre in Yamuna water can pose a serious threat to national security. He termed Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations as unfortunate and objectionable.

Citing media reports, LG said that making such false and misleading allegations on sensitive issues like drinking water is dangerous not only for Delhi and Haryana but also for the peace and security of the entire country. He also said that instead of condemning Kejriwal’s statements, Chief Minister Atishi has written a letter to the Election Commission and tried to create fear and confusion in the public.

LG hoped that Delhi Chief Minister would rise above narrow political interests and avoid such baseless and misleading statements. At the same time, he also said that Atishi should also advise Arvind Kejriwal to stay away from such rhetoric, so that the public does not spread unnecessary panic.

Significantly, Arvind Kejriwal claimed in a post on X (East Twitter) on Monday that poison is being added to the water of Yamuna, so that if the people of Delhi drink it, then many people can die. He described it as an act like a genocide. However, the Delhi Jal Board termed his claim as misleading and factless.

Now after the BJP’s complaint, the Election Commission, taking action in this matter, has asked Arvind Kejriwal to present evidence in support of his claim to mix poison in Yamuna water.
