
Dehradun: Monday is the second day of Republic Day. On 27 January, the Uniform Citizenship Act came into force in Uttarakhand. Thus Uttarakhand is becoming the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code.
State Chief Minister Parkash Singh Dhami told reporters that all preliminary preparations have been made to implement this law. Also, adequate training has also been given to the officers who have implemented the law. With the implementation of this law, all citizens will get equal rights and responsibilities (responsibilities) and uniformity in the society.
The Chief Minister further said. Through this, the state has become a participant in the “Yadi” launched by the Prime Minister in the country. This is the “Yadi” to make the country well -developed, well -organized, harmonious and self -reliant.
He further said that our party (Bharatiya Janata Paksha) has fulfilled the promise made during the Vidhan Sabha elections in 2022, which no one could do since the formation of the state in 2020. In March 2020, the Uttarakhand cabinet led by retired Supreme Court Judge Ranjana Prakash Desai approved the UCC on May 27, 2025. A committee was formed to prepare the draft. The committee interacted with citizens of all different seats in the state for one and a half years and submitted a detailed report on 2 February 2024. A few days later, the Uttarakhand Legislature introduced a bill on the equal negative law. President Draupadi Murmu approved the bill in March 2024 after two years.
Along with this, another committee was also formed under the leadership of former Chief Secretary of the state Shatrughan Singh. The rules and “regulations” for the implementation of the Act were asked to prepare. The committee submitted its report to the state government last year.
Subsequently, the State Cabinet recently entrusted the power to decide the date of implementation of this Act. So Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Jaan. From the second day of the 76th Republic Day of the 27th country, it was decided to implement this law in the state.
These citizens also cover law, marriage, divorce, heritage and “live in relationship”. It also includes the marriageable age of the young man, solid basis of marriage breakdown and all processes for it. Which applies equally to people of all religions. This law prohibits polygamy and also stops “hawala”.
Doon University Vice Chancellor Surekha Dangwal told reporters that it includes “live in relationship” which is an important aspect. Therefore people of all religions come to the same level. Along with this, the government has taken a very important step by making it mandatory to register marriage or “live in relationship” with the government.
Another important aspect of the law is that it considers all children valid. The use of the word “illegitimate child” has been removed from this law. However, Doon University Vice Chancellor Surekha Dangwal told reporters.
Explaining in detail on heritage, Sureshana Dungwale said that an army soldier, an Air Force jawan or a naval jawan can “get a privileged will”. There are many discounts in this law.
