PIB denied this rumor on its official social media platform ‘X’ and said that:

It is incorrectly claiming that RBI has banned the writing from black ink on the check. - No guidelines of RBI:
RBI has not released any guideline regarding any particular color ink to write checks.

- It is advisable to use permanent and image-friendly ink.
- With this, checks can be easily read and avoiding tampering.

No rules have been implemented to use a particular color ink on the check. - No change in important information:
- No change in the name or amount (in digits and words) of Payee on the check is not acceptable.
- In case of change, a new check will have to be issued.
- This step has been taken to prevent fraud and ensure safety of transactions.
