Laurene Powell Jobs, wife of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, will participate in the Mahakumbh Mela starting from January 13 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Lauren will participate in this most sacred religious event of Hinduism as a Sadhvi and will perform penance and meditation for two weeks. She will perform the ancient Hindu tradition of Kalpavas, which is considered a symbol of spiritual purification and self-discipline.
Lauren’s stay in Mahakumbh
Lauren Powell Jobs will remain in Mahakumbh till 29 January. According to a report in Times of India, she will stay at the camp of Mahamandaleshwar Swami Kailashanand of Niranjani Akhara. During the Mahakumbh, Lauren will participate in various rituals and take a holy dip in the Sangam. With this she will completely absorb the spiritual experience of Mahakumbh.
Kalpavas: An Ancient Tradition
Kalpavas is an ancient spiritual practice of Hindu religion, which is mentioned in the Vedas and Puranas. In this, penance, meditation and sadhana are done throughout the month of Magh at the Sangam. It is believed that by doing Kalpavas one gets freedom from the bondages of many births and one’s wishes are fulfilled.
It is mentioned in Mahabharata that the result equal to 9 years of penance is obtained from Kalpvas of Magh month.

Performing Kalpavas is not easy and requires strict discipline. Some important rules of Kalpavas are as follows:

- To have control over the senses and mind.
