Iran is considering ways to resume crude oil supplies to India. It is keen to expand its entire business, including petrochemicals, through the Chabahar port, a senior Iranian official said in a statement.

An Iranian official told reporters that the behavior of the next Donald Trump administration towards Iran is unlikely to be the same as the previous term because China’s strategic power has increased and there have been some important changes in geopolitics.

During his first term as US President, Trump had imposed many sanctions on Iran. The US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal along with increasing curbs on Iran’s economy.

Supporting resumption of Iranian crude oil supplies to India, the official said both sides need to find a way out.

India stopped buying crude oil from Iran in mid-2019 after the US imposed sanctions. An Iranian official, on condition of anonymity, said that it is important to pay attention to this issue.

Regarding India continuing to purchase crude oil from Russia despite Western sanctions, he said that the terms of sanctions against Russia and Iran are different. We have to see how to resolve this issue. We do not want any trouble for India.
