Pregnant woman stabbed to death for dowry

Araria, 03 December (HS). The case of murder of Reema, daughter of Tuntun Rai, resident of Araria Omnagar ward number 8, by stabbing her in her in-laws’ house has come to light. The deceased’s father has accused the married woman’s husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law of brutally stabbing her to death.

The family alleges that the in-laws had informed that she had been injured by falling from the roof, but after seeing the body of the daughter admitted in the hospital in Purnia, marks of murder by stabbing at twelve places in the entire body were found. The deceased’s father Tuntun Rai has alleged that his daughter was murdered by her in-laws for dowry of Rs 3 lakh. The deceased was pregnant. The in-laws house of the deceased was in Line Basti of Purnia Maranga police station area. About one and a half years ago, Reema was married to Keshav Mandal of Purnia Maranga.

She was pregnant and alone at home at the time of the incident. Reema’s brother-in-law Suraj Kumar has been accused of brutally attacking her with a knife in the morning. The knife attacks were so deep that around 12 wounds were found on Reema’s neck, stomach, and other parts of the body. Even the child in the womb was not spared.

After the incident, the family of the deceased is in bad condition and crying.

The public representatives of Araria have reacted strongly to this heinous crime. Former ward councilor Sanjeev Paswan, Ward 16 representative Omprakash Sonu, and Manoj Kumar Singh, brother of MP Pradeep Kumar Singh, have condemned the incident and demanded that the accused be hanged under speedy trial.
