After this Tuesday, the candidacy in the US presidential election will be sealed in a way. However, it is now a ritual of sorts as the contest between current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump becomes a possibility. Trump is very close to getting the nomination from the Republican Party.
Some other contestants from his party have also left their claims in the race for candidacy and have come in support of Trump. Even Vivek Ramaswamy, who was once a strong challenger, has now come out in favor of Trump's candidacy. Only Nikki Haley is standing in front of Trump, but her challenge is very weak. Even Haley could not stop Trump in her home state of South Carolina. In such a situation, this is probably going to be the first time in the American elections that a sitting President will have to compete with a candidate who has faced each other in the elections before. Although the situation has changed a lot in these four years, the competition between the two is expected to remain as close as last time. This election is going to be a little different for American voters. Both voters are well aware of the personality and policies of the candidates. Trump, in his familiar style, is making personal attacks on Biden and questioning his policies. Trump's challenge to Biden was neither easy four years ago nor now. The last elections were held in the background of the Covid pandemic due to which Biden's path had become somewhat easier due to the worsening situation in America, but this time he does not see any such natural lead. In the last election, questions were being raised about Biden's age and now Trump has also turned 77 years old.
Given this aspect, Robert Kennedy Jr. may be trying to mount a challenge as an independent candidate, but his efforts are unlikely to be in vain. Looking at the age of Biden and Trump, it seems that both the Republican and Democrat political groups are trapped in the window of the past. In such a situation, it should not be surprising if there is any decrease in the enthusiasm of American voters. This has been seen in primary elections also. 40 percent of independent Republicans did not vote for Trump in the primaries. In fact, Trump's core voters are keeping him at the forefront in the race for candidacy. Seen this way, these are non-issue elections that focus more on the rivalry between two individuals. Trump is saying that his slogan of 'Make America Great Again' remained incomplete due to not coming back to power. In such a situation, he is appealing to the voters to give him a chance. They are counting Biden's failures. While campaigning like this, Donald Trump sometimes falls into the trap. Everyone remembers his working style as President. They often forget etiquette in order to crush their opponents. The lies told by him are also well known. Many times he misled the world by distorting figures or facts.
Despite this, there is no major issue in America's domestic politics at present. America's economic growth is currently better than expected. The figures from inflation to unemployment are also going to provide some relief. In a way, Biden has been successful in bringing stability to the domestic economy, but he is not telling the right story about his success. At the same time, Trump seems to be successful in cornering Biden with his words. In simple words, while Biden is not able to convey the message of his success, Trump is able to present his success as a failure. Since no issue seems to be affecting us at the domestic level, this election will probably be decided by decisions related to foreign policy. America came out of Afghanistan during the Biden administration, but it also had to pay a heavy price for it. The circumstances under which the American army returned from Afghanistan brought great disgrace to America at the international level. When America left Afghanistan, it somehow got stuck in Ukraine.
The US and NATO countries are helping Ukraine to fight against Russia with military equipment and money-laundering. Despite this, Russia's dominance remains intact. This is a matter of great concern for America. Not only this, after the Israel-Hamas war, America is also facing a tough challenge in the Red Sea. Even in West Asia its equation has become somewhat disturbed. There has been no reduction in its enmity and tension with China. China remains a headache for America in every matter. He is increasing America's concerns by working with Russia. A section of his party, especially the youth, is angry with the way Biden has supported Israel in the fight against Hamas. Trump can take advantage of this anger. Looked at this way, an interesting trend is visible in American politics. That is, the attitude of the leader of the Republican Party, which is considered conservative, is liberal, whereas the attitude of President Biden of the Democratic Party, known for its liberal outlook, is somewhat conservative. Trump's enthusiastic supporters also believe that because of his relations with Putin, he can find an acceptable solution to the Ukraine crisis.
However, Trump's erratic behavior also raises some doubts about him. His recent statement regarding NATO did not send the right message to America's traditional allies. Trump's behavior could upset traditional US allies such as Japan and Taiwan.
In relation to India, Trump's previous tenure was a mixed bag for India. During his reign, America's trade agreement with India did not happen as per expectations and he also imposed some restrictions on India but he also showed aggressive tone against China. This proved helpful for India. His relations with Prime Minister Modi also remained cordial. Trump has been active in helping India on strategic grounds. Overall, Trump's tenure has been beneficial for India to a great extent.
