Gujarat unseasonal rain: A system formed in the Arabian Sea has created a monsoon-like atmosphere in Gujarat even before the onset of winter. A total of 152 talukas of the state have received rainfall in the last 24 hours, out of which 21 talukas have received more than 2 inches of rainfall. Due to heavy rains, waterlogging is being seen in many areas of Saurashtra and South Gujarat.
Highest rainfall in Mahuva and Sehore
The highest rainfall in the state during the last 24 hours has been recorded in Bhavnagar district. There has been heavy rainfall of 7.68 inches in Mahuva taluka of Bhavnagar and 5 inches in Sehore. Apart from this, 2.99 inches of rain has been recorded in Palitana, 2.83 inches in Bhavnagar city, 2.64 inches in Jessore, 2.13 inches in Umrala, 1.89 inches in Talaja and 1.50 inches in Vallabhipur.
Talking about South Gujarat, 3.94 inches of rain was received in Songadh of Tapi, 3.66 inches in Umarpada of Surat, 1.89 inches in Surat city and 1.26 inches in Olpad, due to which many low-lying areas across the district including the city were flooded.
Torrential rain overnight in Saurashtra, Rady dam overflows
Coastal areas of Saurashtra received heavy rain overnight. Due to rain in Jaffrabad city and its rural areas, streets of many villages including Wadli were filled with water. Rain was also recorded in Moti Gop village of Jamjodhpur taluka in Jamnagar district. Due to heavy rains in coastal areas like Dungar Mandal, Dungarparda, Kumbhariya, Devka, Balapar, Masundara of Rajula, the local river of Dungar got flooded and rain water overflowed on the roads.
Raidi dam overflowed due to incessant rains in Khambha rural area of Amreli district. When the water level of the dam increased, its 5 gates were opened by 2 feet each, due to which the water of Raidi River started flowing on both the banks and the people living in the lower areas were alerted.
Flood devastation in Godhra, Panchmahal
Unseasonal heavy rains in Godhra town of Panchmahal district also caused waterlogging in low-lying areas. Areas like Ankleshwar Mahadev Road, Prabha Road, Chitra Khadi and Bhuravv of the city were flooded. Due to monsoon like conditions at the beginning of winter, the city residents are facing a lot of difficulties.
Farmers are also likely to suffer huge losses due to this unseasonal rain. The Meteorological Department has still expressed the possibility of rain in some areas, in view of which the system is on alert mode.
