Chhath Puja, the great festival of faith and sun worship, has come to its final stage today. Today i.e. Tuesday, 28 October 2025, is the fourth and most important day of Chhath Puja. This holy festival, which lasts for four days, will end with the offering of Arghya to the rising Sun God this morning.

With this, the 36 hours long, difficult and waterless penance of Chhath fasts will also be completed. Chhath fast is considered one of the most difficult fasts of Hindu religion, in which the devotees neither eat anything nor drink a drop of water. This fast, which started after taking Prasad after sunset on the day of Kharna, will end today with the first rays of the sun at dawn.

Chhath Puja 2025: Fourth and last day

Simple method of morning arghya (morning arghya)

  1. Even before dawn, devotees reach Chhath Ghat with their entire families.
  2. Standing in the water of a pond or river, one waits for the rising Sun God. During this, Haman Soup is again decorated with fruits and prasad, from which Arghya is offered in the evening.
  3. As soon as the first redness of the Sun appears in the east and the Sun God rises, he is offered Arghya with milk and water.
  4. Meditate on Sun God and pray and thank Chhathi Maiya for giving her the strength to complete this fast.
  5. After offering Arghya, the devotees distribute Prasad among the people present at the ghat and then prepare to break their fast (Paran).

In Chhath Puja, the setting sun is worshiped by offering arghya, but on the fourth day, offering arghya to the rising sun is a symbol of a new beginning, hope and positivity. It is a sign of a new dawn in life. After offering Arghya to the Sun in the morning on 28th October, the devotees can end their fast at any time. After fasting without water for 36 hours, this moment is very special and emotional. Most of the devotees do not sleep after the evening Arghya and stay awake the whole night singing bhajans and kirtans. After offering Arghya in the morning, they complete their fast.

  • Right way: The fast can be broken by drinking raw milk sherbet or eating thekua after the puja. Some women return home from the ghat, light a lamp at the place of worship, pay obeisance to Chhathi Maiya and then break their fast by sitting with the family and taking prasad.

According to tradition, Chhath fast is broken first by eating a little prasad. In this you can eat thekua, kasari (rice laddus), jaggery and rice kheer, or any fruit. At some places, the devotees consume water with basil leaves and then complete their fast by saluting Chhathi Maiya.
