Dana cyclone update: A cyclonic storm formed over East Central Bay of Bengal is likely to move northwestwards and become a severe cyclonic storm over North West Bay of Bengal by today morning on October 24. Keeping this in mind, the West Bengal government has evacuated 1.14 lakh people from areas including Sundarbans and Sagar Islands to safe places.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the storm will hit between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dharma Port in Odisha from Thursday night to Friday morning.
The West Bengal government has decided to evacuate a total of 282863 people. Out of which 114613 people have been evacuated to safe places.
In view of Cyclone Dana, Eastern Railway has decided to stop 190 local trains in Sildah division from 8 pm on Thursday to 10 am on Friday.
On the other hand, in view of the threat of Cyclone Dana, Kolkata airport authorities have decided to cancel all flights from 6 pm to 3 am on Thursday.
According to Airport Authority of India officials, this decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of passengers, airline staff, various equipment, navigation aids and infrastructure.
