Your bank account can be empty! Android and iPhone users were careful by this message to FBI

Has there been a message to pay toll tax on your phone too? If yes, be careful! This can be a new conspiracy to make you pauper. The US’s largest investigating agency, FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) has issued a serious warning for both Android and iPhone users.

Nowadays smartphone has become an important part of our life, but with this the risk of online fraud has also increased. Frauds are adopting new methods every day to cheat people. A new scam has surfaced in this episode, which is called “Smishing”.

What is this entire scam?

Smishing, ie fishing (fraud) through SMS. In this, scammers send you a text message, which looks absolutely real. Recently, these messages are being sent in the name of road toll collection agencies. It is written in the message that you have a toll tax outstanding and a link is given to repay it.

How does this fraud work?

1. Fake message: There is a message on your phone which is said, “Your [टोल कंपनी का नाम] The bill is left. To avoid penalty, immediately click on the link given below and pay. ”

2. Fake website net: As soon as you click on that link, you reach a fake website that looks exactly like the real company’s website.

3. Information theft: On that website, your personal information like name, address, phone number and most important, your credit or debit card details are sought.

4. Bank account empty: As soon as you fill this information, the scammers reach all your financial information and they can vacate your bank account.

What did FBI say?

According to FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), complaints of such toll tax smiling have increased rapidly. Thousands of people are caught in this trap. This scam is not only limited to the US, but can spread around the world, so Indian users also need to be cautious.

How to protect yourself from this type of scam?

FBI has given some easy ways to avoid this:

• Doubt, not click: If you get any such message from an unknown number, do not forget to click on any link given in it.

• Delete immediately: Without thinking, immediately delete any such suspicious message from your phone.

• Contact the company directly: If you feel that maybe any of your bills can be really left, instead of going to the link of the message, go directly to the official website of that company or call their customer care number and confirm it.

• Number block and report: Block that unknown number immediately and complain about it on the cybercrime reporting portal.

• Keep an eye on financial accounts: If you have accidentally clicked on the link, immediately inform your bank and keep a close watch on your bank statements.
