What to do about their base after the death of a loved one?

This is an important question. Let us tell you that after the death of a person, there is no official process to cancel or deactivate their Aadhaar card. In such a situation, it becomes the responsibility of the family to ensure that there is no misuse of the Aadhaar card of the deceased.

  • Remove names from plans: If the deceased were taking advantage of any government scheme or subsidy, then the concerned department should inform them about their death and remove their names from the scheme. This can prevent any kind of trouble in future.

Lock the base of the dead person like this (another way to keep safe):

UIDAI also allows you to lock the base, which can prevent any kind of misuse of it. This process is also quite easy:

  1. UIDAI’s website https://uidai.gov.in Go to

  2. Click on “My Aadhaar” or “Aadhaar Services” section “Lock/Unlock Aadhaar” (Aadhaar lock/unlock) option.

  3. To lock the base, enter your Aadhaar number, full name (as is on the base), and PIN code. After this, fill OTP and submit it.

  4. Your Aadhaar card will be locked.

Whenever you want to use Aadhaar, you can also unlock it through this process. To unlock you will need your virtual ID and OTP. Locking Aadhaar is a great safety measure, which you must use.

Remember, a little caution can save you from great troubles. Protect your base!
