Annual income of self-help group (SHG) member woman one lakh: Lakhpati Didi Yojana of Modi government is a scheme under which loans are given to women without interest. This loan is completely interest free and can range from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. The government is trying to create and establish economic empowerment and financial independence among women. There is only one condition to avail the benefit of this scheme, that is that this loan will be available only to those women who are members of Self Help Group (SHG).

Last year, the target of the number of women taking benefits under this scheme was set at 2 crore, but this year in the interim budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced to increase this number from 2 crore to 3 crore. Since here an effort is being made to increase the total income of the family to lakh rupees due to the woman, hence it was named Lakhpati Didi Yojana.

What are self help groups – Small groups consisting mainly of women living in rural areas come together to save money and give loans to each other. The Down to Earth report, citing Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) data released in December 2023, said that there are 90 lakh SHGs in India of which about 100 million are women members. It started in some rural areas in the 1970s. Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) was the most discussed in Gujarat.

Under the Lakhpati Didi scheme, the annual income of Rs 1 lakh is actually calculated for at least four agricultural seasons or business cycles. At the same time, for those whose average monthly income is more than ten thousand rupees, this calculation has been kept due to the stability of their income. This scheme is implemented by the Rural Ministry of the Government.
