News India Live, Digital Desk: The month of December is going on (2025), winter is at its peak and the year is about to end. In such an environment, many of us plan to go on holidays or think of completing pending household work. But wait! If you believe in Hindu traditions and astrology, then this news is useful for you. The elders in the house often say that when “Panchak” is observed, certain tasks should be postponed.

Today we are talking about the same ‘Panchak’ which is going to be held this December. Let us understand in simple language why these 5 days are important and especially “South Direction” Why is there so much prohibition regarding (South Direction)?

Panchak: What is this?
In simple words, the time when the Moon transits in Aquarius and Pisces is called Panchak. This is a period of five days. In astrology it is considered very ‘sensitive’. It is not that it is always inauspicious, but there are some tasks which are “prohibited” in these 5 days.

Planning a trip in December? Check the directions!
We often go out on weekends or holidays. But during Panchak one rule is followed very strictly- “Do not travel south.”
Why? According to astrology, the south direction is considered to be the direction of ‘Yama’ (god of death). It is said that during Panchak, the combination of constellations is such that going in this direction creates fear of troubles, obstacles or accidents. Therefore, if it is not absolutely necessary, one should avoid going south during these 5 days.

Don’t make these 5 mistakes, otherwise problems may increase
Apart from travelling, there are four more activities which are considered prohibited in Panchak. If you are going to make any major changes in your house these days, then check this list:

  1. Roofing: If you are building a house, then avoid getting the lintel or roof installed during Panchak. It is believed that this can cause discord or unrest in the house.
  2. Collecting Wood: In olden times people used to collect firewood. Astrology says that grass, wood or fuel should not be stored during Panchak, as there is fear of fire.
  3. Making a cot: Buying/making a new bed or cot is also not considered auspicious these days.
  4. Rules for cremation: This is the most serious rule. If someone dies during Panchak, the last rites are not performed in the normal manner. After asking the Pandit ji, 5 effigies of ‘Kusha’ (grass) are made and burnt together, so that the effect of ‘Panchak Dosh’ gets eliminated.

Don’t be afraid, just be careful
Look, in today’s modern era we can consider many things as superstition. But these traditions have emerged from the experiences of our ancestors. Its purpose is not to scare you, but to alert you. If you have to do any very important work during these days of December, then take astrological advice and ‘cut’ or resolve it, and then move ahead.

So if you are planning a trip to the South at the end of this month, then definitely check the dates of ‘Panchak’ in the calendar. After all, “caution removed, accident occurs”, whether on the road or in the movement of stars.
