Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed about the major decisions taken in the cabinet meeting on Monday and said that the Central Government will launch PAN 2.0 and this is PAN upgrade. Especially for revealing the identity of taxpayers, a bigger document will now prove to be more beneficial.
Ashwini Vaishnav said that the PAN 2.0 project is an e-governance initiative that aims to simplify and secure PAN/TAN services from PAN authentication to core and non-core PAN/TAN activities. He said that the aim of our project is to provide better digital experience to the taxpayers.
Will PAN card with QR be available for free?
Now let’s talk about how the new PAN will be different from the old PAN. A big change will be seen with these QR code PAN cards announced by the PAN 2.0 project. In this, many types of benefits will be available starting from registration of taxpayers. By being completely digital, all the services related to it will be easily available. Apart from this, the cardholder’s data will also be more secure. Most importantly, QR PAN will be provided free of cost to the taxpayers.

This PAN will have a QR code and taxpayers will not need to pay anything separately to generate it. There is no need to go anywhere for this. The financial burden on this project of Modi government has been estimated at Rs 1,435 crore. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that PAN card holders will not need to change their PAN number. The new PAN 2.0 will be introduced as an amendment to the existing PAN system. He further said that the new card will have QR code for scanning facility and will be completely online.
